Canine tobacco addiction

My dog manages to get out his confined area from time to time when I am away from the house. That isn't surprising since he's my killer wolf attack dog. The thing that does concern me is that when I've been getting home the past couple of days, I've noticed a chewed up cigarette on the ground each time. I don't smoke, and I'm pretty sure nobody else in my house does either. So where is he getting these cigarettes from?! Furthermore, where is he stashing them so that he can consume them one at a time when I'm gone? I guess I'll just have to have a talk with him about the effects of tobacco before Phillip-Morris enslaves him too..

Weeknight buffoonery

I went to a surprise birthday dinner party last night for a friend. I told myself after dinner I would take it easy and catch some TV. After a few shots of sake with one of my favorite bad influences, it was time to go out. Went to a few bars and happened to catch 80s cover band McFly. It definitely wasn't the McFly I remembered. It seems they dropped the two chickies (the girl who could play and the other one with the shorts) and picked up two lifeless guys. The night was redeemed when two members of Plane Jane, one of my favorite local bands, joined McFly on stage for a few covers.

The Tide rolled in..

So I had the best seats I've ever had at this past Saturday's game, unfortunately they were for this past Saturday's game. It seemed like a lot of our players didn't have their hearts in the game. Here's a guy that was trying to inspire his teammates for 4 quarters:

I wasn't close enough to actually hear what was being said, but if I read Spurrier's lips correctly I think he was saying: "Let's try to avoid the shotgun the next time it's 4th and 2."

Georgia Post-game, Bama predictions

So this recurring theme with the USC/UGA game is getting old. Carolina is usually playing a ranked Georgia team, and people make them out to be unbeatable. Here are a few predictions that I gathered this year:

Vegas: Georgia wins by 18. I thank everyone that bet me Georgia could cover, yall bought my dog a new doghouse and I got a new hat.

Clemson/Georgia Fans (before the game): "UGA is gonna hang 50 on Carolina. There's no way yall can match up with a physical team like that."

Clemson/Georgia Fans (after the game): "Carolina sure did get lucky. Georgia was playing sloppy and that's what kept yall in the game. The score doesn't reflect how much yall got dominated."

I admit though, in the end it only matters if you won or lost. I don't believe in moral victories, USC lost to a SEC team that was held to 112 yards on the ground. We lost the game by not scoring the easy points.

So now we face Alabama, which has a history of football greatness.

"There's no way USC can beat Alabama. They have too much tradition. Ever heard of the Bear? Our starting QB is healthy. We have the best secondary you've ever seen. We're going to hang 50 on yall. The line already has us by 2.5."

I guess they're right. I mean, they did have 470 total net yards against the University of Southern Mississippi. Interestingly, 330 of those yards were in the air.. I guess Ko Simpson, Jonathan Joseph, Fred Bennett, and ironman SEC Freshman of the week Carlos Thomas will have to try and not suck. I guess it'll be best to disregard the fact that Carolina beat them 20- a field goal in their backyard last year while playing LouBall(tm). Oh well, I guess we'll just play the game anyway.. I'll go with a 17-10 Carolina win.

I guess this is tangentially related, but how about Jonathan Hannah? Did we throw to a tight end?

Sullivan's Island Dangers

On Sullivan's Island, there is a small channel between the beach and the sand bar. So after a few drinks, we decided we had to swim the 80 yards to the other side. The water level was up to our necks. This was pretty frustrating, because down the beach on either side kids were crossing with no problem. I think I stepped on a crab or two along the way. So anyway, we're almost to the sand bar when I look up and see this fin surface. Automatically, LJ and I swam back to the beach as fast as we could (or atleast as fast as we could while holding a beer). We told the girls we were with that we had seen a shark, and of course that was just met with a lot of sarcasm.

So a few hours, pitchers of margaritas, and horseshoe games pass by when we see a fin come up on our side of the beach. We go to take a closer look, and it's a freakin 4' hammerhead shark. Lucky for it, I didn't have my harpoon with me.


Anywho, I did some more research and I think this shark was actually a bonnethead shark. These sharks, Sphyrna tiburo, feed mostly on crustaceans and swim in small channels. Another uncomfortable fact I found is that they rarely swim alone- they are usually in groups of 3-15.

UCF Post game Thoughts

The Gamecocks picked up an easy win in their opener, even though the score may not reflect that. I was most impressed with Blake Mitchell, who completed 18 of 23 passes for 330 yards.

Just a few of my opinions:

I think our line play on both sides of the ball will be our weakest link for the rest of the season. On offsense, I think that killed our running game. . I was surprised to read that the defense had 6 sacks.

I know we kept our game as plain as possible, but I hope creative running strategies make up for any lack of ability next weekend.

Ko had a spectacular game, as expected. JUCO transfer Mike West busted ass too. It seemed like our corners were playing back against their receivers, I hope UGA isn't able to exploit those quick outs.

I'm anxious to watch Georgia's opener.
