I'm not articulate enough to describe this weekend. Here are a few graphics that might help.. I'll actually write more later.

Carolina vs. Vandy

USC beat Vandy 35-28 this past weekend. Anyone who thought we would blow them out has obviously not watched either team play this year. I consider it a quality win but it came a great cost- the loss of Syvelle Newton for the year. He tore his achilles tendon and I hope he can recover by next year. The plays where Blake would flank out to receiver as Syvelle moved from tailback to quarterback were genius.

The game was just part of a great weekend that was filled with
old friends, cold beer, good food, warm whiskey, and perfect weather.

So now we travel Knoxville, home of the dirtiest college football program in the nation. We haven't beaten UT in over a decade, but I think we have a legitimate shot this year. They will be missing Gerald Riggs. Their offense seems touchdown-averse. They're probably looking towards their Notre Dame matchup. The line is at 14 and I say there is no way UT covers. I'll be the first to admit it on Sunday if they do. I had plans for this weekend, but now I'm thinking a trip to Tennessee is worth it.

Pics are up. Also, I apologize to anyone who believed that there was such a thing as an archeological dental residency to restore teeth on mummified bodies.

Underwater bike

I was walking Chap one evening when I found this bicycle sitting on the side of the road. Clearly, it's been underwater for quite some time.

Maybe it was in my backyard. Over thousands of walks with my dog the past few months, I've come to know every other dog owner in town. Of course, part of dog walking etiquette states that upon confrontation with another dog being walked, the two owners must engage in atleast 10 minutes of boring conversation. Other protocol includes inquiring about the other dog's breed, and also allowing the two dogs to sniff each other.. but that's not relevant. Is any of this relevant to the barnacle-laden bike? Yes, I was just getting to that.

So during one of these conversations, the lady who owns the boykin spaniel told me that a child went missing a few years ago. It was actually a few months before I moved into my place. She told me that the kid just went missing and that the entire neighborhood looked for him. They finally found him 3 days later in the (previously linked) my backyard area. Could this bike be another piece of the puzzle to that case? I don't know, but if it isn't then this bike must logically belong to Aquaman's son.

Good Housekeeping

This article was forwarded to me the other day. Now just remember, I did not write this article. This clipping does not necessarily represent the views of myself or anyone at the SummerOfDev(tm). I just found it interesting that this was actually written in a publication 50 years ago. The words 'paradigm shift' come to mind..

Gamecocks win 44-16 over Kentucky

Welp, we picked up our expected win against Kentucky this weekend. I'm just gonna break this rant down into the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The Good:
-Sidney Rice. Number 4 had 125 yards in 8 attempts that included two touchdowns in the 3rd that gave us the momentum we needed. He's also scored atleast one touchdown in our past 5 games.

-Ko Simpson recovered a fumble to score 6 and also got an interception. As usual, he led our defense in tackles. It's great that he's making plays, but I'd much rather our linebackers or linemen lead our team in tackles. Tackling in general will be discussed shortly.

-Blake Mitchell went 23 for 34 for a total of 277 yards (2 touchdowns/1 interception). I'm glad our previously injured starter lit it up in his comeback. I personally think he's the best quarterback I've seen at Carolina (yes, better than Petty). Sure, he occasionally throws a bounce pass to our receivers cutting through the middle, but I attribute all of that to inexperience.

The Bad:
Extra Points- Josh, sometimes they can make or break the game. If you question that, refer back to the Georgia game. I know they are only worth a point, but we should start cashing in on these freebies. I mean, what is it about Carolina and getting the easy points? Anyone remember our free throw shooting last basketball season?

Counting to 11- DAMNIT. Let's make it through a game with 11 players on the field on every play damnit. Not 12 players on defense damnit. Not 10 players on offense dammit. That's just poor coaching damnit.

Penalties- The previous point should be included in this, but what about all the clipping. We had 9 penalties for 97 yards, which is almost as many yards as we had rushing (139).

Tackling- I think our defense has forgotten that football is a contact sport. I'm sick of us playing bumper cars with the opposition's running backs and shoving their receivers out of bounds. Watch and see how many times our players will drop their shoulders straight into our opponents numbers.

The Ugly:

Williams Brice stadium has a terribly intimidating atmosphere.. for a tea party. The fair was in town. It's been raining alot this week (the weather on gameday actually helped Columbia reclaim the title the armpit of South Carolina).

The band was terrible. The jumbotron was broken. Cheerleaders are misnomered. The crowd hadn't had enough bourbon, although I do have to give credit for the yelling on a few defense 3rd downs. But atleast we had a few butchered classics and geriatric shagging during halftime. I hope our fans can make it to some of the more social to-do games in November atleast.

I'll have the pics up later this week.

Baumer CD release

On September 13, Baumer released their first CD 'Come on, Feel it.' This band has an energetic feel that is very (uber-contemporary adjective:) Killers-esque. They have broken out of South Carolina and are currently touring with one of my favorite bands, Better Than Ezra.

I highly recommend atleast visiting this band's website and checking out a few of their downloadable mp3s.
