Gamecock Football... Catch the Fever

Well folks, it's that time of year again. College football returns with its first game tomorrow, featuring The USC Gamecocks versus the University of Central Florida Golden Knights. This game will also showcase the return of one of the greatest college football coaches ever, Coach Steve Spurrier. If you can't make it to the capital city, the game will be televised on ESPN. blah blah blah, yada yada yada..

A look into USC's team this year..

I feel like this squad is loaded offensively compared to previous years. Maybe I'm just buying into the recruiting hype. Maybe I'm just focused on the positives from the spring game. Anywho, since it's still the preseason I'll continue to drink Kool-aid. We are filled with (YOUNG) weapons this year. I'm sure we'll miss having Troy's speed, but I can't help but get excited about the new receivers like OJ Murdock, Carlos Thomas, and (6'4") Sidney Rice. Throw veterans like Syvelle Newton and Noah Whiteside into the mix and I think we have our fair share of playmakers at receiver.

But Dev, didn't all of your running backs get prosecuted, injured, transferred, or dismissed? We may have moved to a smaller stable this year, but it is filled with (YOUNG) able players. Keep an eye on backs Mike Davis and Bobby Wallace especially. I'm guessing we'll see a few fumbles in this first game, but I'm sure Spurrier's version of fumble island will help get those kinks out.

As always, I think Carolina will have a solid, reliable defense. I think this year we'll have a top 10 defense nationally, and our secondary will be one of the best we've ever had. That's saying alot, as we've always been Cornerback U. Notable players here will be Fred Bennet, Jonathan Joseph, and let's not forget about All SEC Freshman of the Year Ko Simpson. I'm thinking he'll get more than 6 picks this year.

Quarterback? Who knows.. maybe we'll have a Corey Jenkins, maybe we'll have a Phil Petty. Either way, I don't think we'll see much of the quarterback draw. The only words I have to address this position are: Steve Spurrier.

Oh yeh, we can kick field goals now.

I'm too lazy/hungover/busy to speculate on UCF, except I will say they will be an up and coming team in the years to come.

Anywho, this prognosticator is feeling a 34-10 South Carolina win. Pics to come.

The south Carolina Gamecocks could very well win sven or eight games this season. That might suprise some people with upsets over Alabama and Georgia. The Gamecocks success really lies on the shoulders of who ever is throwing the ball. It is my prediction that Cade Thompson, the freshman out of Tennessee will be primarily throwing the ball. The Gamecocks backfield may suprise some people though. Keep an eye on frershman runningbacks Mike Davis and Bobby Wallace. South Carolina has a remarkable set of wide outs in Newton, Whiteside, Rice, Murdock , and Thomas. With the right Quarterback don't be suprised if the Gamecocks don't put up some huge passing yards this year. The defense is one of the best we've had in years. Our secondary is second to none in the SEC with Fred Bennet, and Jonathan Joseph, Tremaine Tyler, and All SEC Freshman Ko Simpson. the Gamecocks have a brutal set of linebackers this year in Orus Lambart, Ricardo Hurley, and Mike West, who transfered from Butler and may also suprise many this season. It's hard to tell now but the Gamecocks will be at the top of their conference in a few years. The Gamecocks will definatley turns some heads this season as they open up tonight against Central Florida. You might catch a glimpse of Spurrier's "Cock-N Fire" tonight.

Go Gamecocks!
The Spurrier Legacy Begins Now!!!!
